MAP SOURCES

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VPN, DO NOT PROCEED

THIS IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. I DO NOT KNOW HOW LICENSING WORKS. IF YOU GET IN TROUBLE FOR STREAMING MAPS, THAT IS NOT MY FAULT

Maps are streamed as XML files, so you need internet access for this to work. I dont fully understand how streaming works, but I think you are streaming a web page into ATAK. When you save a map, it is saved as an sqlite file (I have tried resarching what the hell this is and I still have no idea). Becuase you are streaming maps, your IP is exposed to the source, so this is why a VPN is important

Map sources can be found in many places online, but here is a good one

The most useful maps are:

Bing hybrid- satellite map with street names and POIs

Google roadmap standard- roads and POIs only

ESRI world imagery clarity- outdated but very easy to read lightweight maps

ESRI world topo- Extremely good topographical map
