FEATURES

GPS

My primary use for ATAK is GPS. I have used it in many places that did not have any cell service to map trails, investigate points of interest I found on a map, or mark cool campsites. I also use it in new cities to mark the location of my car when I park, and keep track of the places I have been.

This is a pretty straightforward and simple way to use ATAK, and is likely as far as most people will use it, which is just fine as long as they are able to source maps. Even using this feature alone is a huge step up from any other GPS app, and allows you to control your data as there are no KNOWN backdoors to ATAK.

COMMUNICATIONS

This is where ATAK gets really complicated really fast. There are a ton of ways to use ATAK to chat with the boys, from building your own server to incorporating iot radios and building a mesh network, and even using handheld radios to send data to anyone in the area.

PLUGINS

these are add ons to ATAK. kind of like apps within the app. Some come available for installation with ATAK, and others can be found online.
